What is the Mission of the Florida Oceanographic Society?
The mission of the Society is to increase the knowledge and understanding of Florida's
marine resources through education, public awareness, and the support of scientific
research. The successful accomplishment of this mission will help to preserve and protect
Florida's fragile ocean and coastal environments for future generations.
How is the Society funded?
The Society is funded primarily through Membership contributions. Donations and
fundraising efforts also assist in Society funding. Additionally, the Society receives
grant funding for specific research projects.

Why should I join?
The Florida Oceanographic Society is growing to meet the need for understanding our
coastal resources and communicating knowledge through research and education programs. The
conservation of our marine resources and environments is important to help assure the
future quality of life in Florida. Each year, about 75% of Florida's 300,000 new residents
move to within 15 miles of the coastline, increasing the potential impacts on coastal
ecosystems. Your Membership support will enable the Society to continue to expand its
programs of education and research.
